Torricella Peligna – (901 mt – abitanti 4110 – alberghi Americano e della Vittoria – Capoluogo di Mandamento – Circondario di Lanciano, km 39.3 – Ufficio Postale e Telegrafo – Stazione Ferroviaria Torino di Sangro km 47,5 e Palena km 55.3 – Corriera Postale da Casoli e Torino).

E’ in amena posizione su un colle in territorio coltivato a viti, grano e legnami con bella veduta sul mare e sulla Maiella.

Ha un lanificio e una fabbrica di paste alimentari; eccellenti sono le acque potabili e vi è anche una sorgente sulfurea.

In queste adiacenze sorgeva la città di Iuvanum, antica città sannitica le cui rovine sono a Sud del paese, a mezz’ora circa di carrozza, rovine illustrate dal Notar Teseo Madonna.

Il paese attuale è di origine medievale e non presenta monumenti notevoli. Il suo nome accenna alla presenza in questi luoghi di un marchese Torricelli, da cui lo stemma del comune. Il martedì dopo Pentecoste si celebra la festa della Madonna delle Rose presso il santuario della Vergine, in sito ameno, a Nord del paese, a circa 3 km.

Da Torricella la via comunale prosegue sempre verso sud, a circa 3 km a destra una via in km 1,6 va a Fallascoso.

Fallascoso (920 mt – abitanti 624 – per alloggio rivolgersi a privati – Mandamento di Torricella Peligna, km 6,4 – Circondario di Lanciano, km 53 – Stazione Ferroviaria Palena). E’ su di un colle calcareo, in territorio che produce grani, patate e fagioli. Nella Chiesa dei Raccomandati si conserva un trittico del 1500. Fu feudo degli Anichini e di altri.

A km 5,2 da Torricella dalla via si stacca a destra un ramo che attraverso monti va in km 16,4 a Palena. Questa via passa sotto Colledimacine, che è a 13,4 km da Torricella, e a 13,8 da Palena.

Colledimacine – (734 mt – abitanti 1465 – locanda di Mario Salvatore – Mandamento di Palena – Circondario di Lanciano, km 62 – Ufficio Poste e Telegrafi – Stazione Ferroviaria Palena – Servizio Postale). E’ sulla destra dell’Aventino, con ampia veduta sulla Maiella ad ovest e a Sudovest. Ha buon’acqua e il territorio, fertile di grani e uve, abbonda di cerri e faggi. Fu feudo dei Trasmondi.

A km 7,7 da Torricella la via comunale suddetta arriva a 1192 mt a Montenerodomo.

Torricella Peligna – Altitude of 901 meters above sea level. Population of 4110 inhabitants. It is the seat of the Torricella Peligna township. From neighboring town of Lanciano 39.3 kilometers.

It has a post office. The nearest train stations are in Torino di Sangro 47.5 kilometers, and Palena, 55.3 kilometers.

It is in a pleasing position looking down upon hills cultivated with grapes, vines and harvest timber and has a beautiful view of the sea and the Maiella.

There is a wool-processing plant and a pasta factory; the spring water is excellent and there is a sulphur spring in the area.

In this area arises the town of Juvanum, an ancient Samnite village whose ruins are south of the village about 1/2 hour by carriage. There are illustrations of the ruins at the Notar Teseo Madonna.

The present town of Torricella Peligna was constructed in the medieval period and has no noteworthy monuments. The name refers to the presence in this area of a Marquis Torricelli, whose coat of arms has become the town’s emblem. On the Tuesday after Pentecost, the feast of the Madonna delle Rose is celebrated at the Sanctuary of the Vergine, in a picturesque location around 3 kilometers north of the town.

From Torricella, the road continues south. At about the 3rd kilometer a road on the right leads 1.6 kilometers further to Fallascoso.

Fallascoso Altitude of 920 meters. Population of 624. Under the legal administration of Torricella Peligna. For accommodations, contact local residents. From Torricella Peligna 6.4 kilometers; from Lanciano 53 kilometers. The closest train station is in Palena. Perched on a hillside formed by limestone, in an area that produces grain, potatoes and beans. In the Church of the Raccomandati, there is a triptych (three paneled picture or carving) dating back to the 1500’s. Fallascoso was under the feudal dominion of the Anichini and others.

At 5.2 kilometers from Torricella, the road branches to the right 16.4 km through mountains to Palena. This road passes below Colledimacine which is 13.4 km from Torricella, and 13.8 from Palena.

Colledimacine Altitude of 734 meters. Population of 1,465. Under the legal administration of Palena. Accommodations available at Mario Salvatore’s Locanda (Inn). From Lanciano 62 kilometers. The closest train station is in Palena. There is a post office. The town is on the right side of the Aventino Valley, with a panoramic view of Mount Maiella to the west and southwest. Good sources of water, cultivations of grains and grapes, and an abundance of Turkey oak (Quercus cerris L.) and beechwood. It was under the feudal dominion of the Trasmondi.

At 7.7 kilometers from Torricella, the aforesaid road arrives at Montnerodomo, altitude 1192 meters.
